About Me
Hello, I'm Emily!
I am a food photographer local to Dubuque, Iowa. I am also available for remote work. I photograph for restaurants, cookbooks, and commercial work for food products.
I got my start in food photography when I bought my first DSLR camera to take better photos of my recipes - while I was working on my blog, Robust Recipes - in a tiny 100-year-old kitchen, without central air, in our first house in Iowa.
Around the time I started my food blog, my dad discovered he has a gluten sensitivity - since the best part of food is sharing it with your loved ones - I began to learn how to cook and bake gluten free foods. I have extensive knowledge in how to turn a recipe into a gluten free one that tastes just as good as the original recipe.
Working on my recipe blog has taught me to become a skilled cook in different types of food, ethnicities, and techniques. I have also become a proficient recipe developer, testing my recipes multiple times to ensure that they turn out great every time.
In the past year I have become obsessed with collecting and caring for houseplants. I also enjoy taking long hikes in the woods with my husband, and my dog. I have always felt grounded when I am surrounded by nature.
Ironically, when I was young I wanted to be a nature photographer for many years. During college I never pursued photography - I got my Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing. Flash forward to today, I would never have thought that I would have fallen in love with food photography, and turn it into my career.
